Demjanjuk Charged With Sobobor Death Camp

deathIt has been a case that has gone into the pages of history but those involved in it have not got justice yet. The case of the Sobibor death camp has been revived once again when John Demjanjuk was charged by German prosecutors on Monday as he was accused that he was an accessory at a Nazi death camp known as the Sobibor Camp during the time of the World War II. The person John Demjanjuk has been known as an retired auto worker who is 89 years of age. In the month of May, he was deported from the U.S. and charges were filed in the Munice court against him as reported by the German prosecutors in a brief statement.

The prosecution took place when doctors reported that the 89 year old man is fit to undergo the trial. The doctors gave such reports because the trials did not exceed beyond two sessions per day, each session being just 90 minutes long. It has been known that the person who is charged as being the accessory to murder generally has to undergo a sentence of 15 years in prison. Demjanjuk has been accused by the prosecutors that he had served as a guard to the Sobibor Nazi camp in Poland in the year 1943 during the second world war.

The person Demjanjuk is of the opinion that he was a Red Army soldier and had spend the war as a war prisoner and also added that he had never hurt a single person. Guenther Maull who is his lawyer abstained from making any comment on the charges drawn against his client saying just that he has not yet looked at the charges.

Margaret Noetzel who is the court spokesperson as reported that the trial of the case will not commence before the autumn this year. Since the court is now deciding whether to accept the charges nothing regarding the date of the trial has been decided upon.
