Pasadena, Jan 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Debra Thompson, of Wellsville, will be riding on the “New Life Rises” float in the 121st Annual Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. The national Donate Life Organization sponsors this float. The 121st Rose Parade has the theme of ‘2010: A Cut Above the Rest’. And it is expected to begin at 11 a.m. EST Friday. The Rose parades began in the year 1890 and were staged even when the US was involved in fighting the World Wars.

Meanwhile Debra’s husband Brad Thompson will watch from the VIP seating courtesy of the Upstate New York Transplant Services organization of Buffalo. The Thompson’s had lost their 24-year-old daughter Laurie five years ago. Though they were anguished by their major loss, the Thompson’s donated Laurie’s pancreatic cells, kidneys, liver and heart; saving the lives of five people.

To watch the famous Rose Bowl Parade, thousands of people came early on Friday, they were seen clutching sleeping bags, lawn chairs to get space to watch the parade along Pasadena’s Colorado Boulevard and other stretches of the route on early Friday. Many of them even spent the night in the open to get space to watch the parade when it begins at 11 a.m. EST on Friday. The grand marshal of the New Year’s Day spectacle is Chesley Sullenberger, the brave pilot, who saved many lives by landing a stricken jetliner on New York’s Hudson River.
