Virginia, Nov. 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) John Allen Muhammad, aged 48, whose only hope was in the form of a clemency petition before the Virginia Governor, Timothy M. Kaine, failed him when the U.S Supreme Court refused to stop his execution . The court did not issue any comment as to why the appeal was not considered. Following this, Muhammad, the serial sniper will be put to death today, in the Greensville Correctional Center (in Jarratt, Virginia), at 9.00 PM with the help of an injection for the brutal murder of Dean Harold Meyers.
Muhammad, along with his teenage partner Lee Boyd Malvo, went on a shooting spree for 22 long days in 2002, killing 10 people across D.C, Virginia and Maryland. They are also suspected of carrying on their shooting spree in other states of Louisiana, Alabama and Arizona. Malvo faces an entire life behind bars whereas Muhammad faces extermination, only a few hours from now.
According to Muhammad’s lawyer, Jonathan Sheldon, Muhammad being a “delusional, paranoid schizophrenic” is mentally ill and should not be executed. Sheldon was reported saying that Virginia will be executing a man who is “severely mentally ill and who also suffered from Gulf War Syndrome the day before Veterans day.” What Sheldon did not mention was that even now, there is no sign of remorse on Muhammad’s part.
Mildred, his ex-wife, who divorced the sniper in September 1999 following an abusive behavior from him, has currently released a book called “Scared Silent”. She says that the book spans their marriage, which had resulted in three kids. Mildred refuses to be there to support her husband in his last surviving hours.
