Jarratt, Va., Nov.11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) John Allen Muhammad, who was accused of killing ten people in 2007, was executed on Tuesday after the court rejected the plea of his lawyers. His lawyers had appealed to the court and also to the Virginia Governor, for reducing Muhammad’s capital punishment to life imprisonment. However, their plea was not accepted and he was given lethal injection- which caused his death at 9:11 p.m. in the Greensville Correctional Center.
John Muhammad’s execution gave rise to mixed emotions among people and some people did not support the execution. Robert Meyers, who lost his brother, Dean Meyers in the killing spree, witnessed Muhammad’s execution and said, “We don’t see any winner in this situation.”
Lawyers of Muhammad, who got quite emotional before the execution, said that they had sympathies for people whose family members were targeted and murdered by Muhammad. Attorney J. Wyndal Gordon, who considered Muhammad to be innocent, told the media that Muhammad did not have any regrets and was prepared to face the execution with dignity. Muhammad’s relative said that they had found a remarkable change in Muhammad after he returned from the Gulf War. They considered that war veterans should get better treatment from the nation. Reportedly, John Muhammad did not utter any word before his execution.
Though John Muhammad was executed on Tuesday, Lee Malvo, who accompanied Muhammad in the killing spree, was given a life imprisonment sentence. He will not be executed as he was a teenager at the time of murder. The duo had plotted the murder plans with military perfection and killed several innocent people in Washington.
