WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) – D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty says he is “deeply saddened” by the Holocaust Memorial Museum shooting on Wednesday afternoon. One security guard was killed while the gunman was left critically injured.

“Our hearts go out to the families affected by this tragedy,” Mayor Fenty said in a brief statement. “The men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line to ensure our safety are truly heroes, and I am deeply saddened that this senseless act of violence threatened the safety of our community,” he added.

The Metropolitan Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Park Police are working together to investigate the shooting. The Mayor’s Office said it would provide more information during a press conference at 8 a.m. local time on Thursday.
