Oct 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Daylight Saving will begin on Sunday, from Oct 3. All those nations, who participate in this innovative strategy of conservation of energy, are constantly being reminded to advance their clock by one hour. For these nations, the day will begin an hour earlier from tomorrow. By this means, the mornings will have less daylight, while the afternoons will have more daylight.
Daylight Savings have several advantages. It gives a number of afternoon benefits and facilitates to all those activities that exploit sunlight after the working hours. This strategy enables better and more comfortable working environment, boost retail business, sport activities, traveling etc. It reduces accidents, and due to the extra hours of daylight, it restricts the use of electricity. It has also been recorded in the past few years that this strategy helps in reducing crime to a great extent. However, it can also cause severe problems to agricultural activities and farming. That is why, this strategy is more popularly adopted in the advanced nations, especially in the west. All those nations, which still depend on agriculture, do not accept it. The sudden alteration in the clock timings, disrupts other bodily activities like sleep and diet, that may result in health hazards.
Most of the countries in Europe and North America observe this one month of Daylight Saving. However, nations in the other continents, like Africa, Antarctica and Asia, refuse to observe this. Russia however is an exception. The northern parts of South America, do not observe Daylight saving, while the nations in its southern part, who are away from the equator, believe in Daylight saving. Daylight saving period of this year will start from tomorrow and will end on Nov 7, 2010.
