Daylight Savings Time
October 31st, 2009 - 1:12 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York City, Oct 30 (THAINDIAN News) On November 1st 2009 at 2:00 a.m., you set the clocks back an hour. This implies that you can gain an extra hour of sleep in that night. The United States Congress extended Daylight Saving Time as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. As of 2007, Daylight Saving Time, begins at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November.
According to a Daylight Savings Time Website , it was originally chosen because it minimized disruption by not preventing the day from switching to yesterday, which would be confusing to many people as well as to many industries too, like the airline industry. It is also early enough for the continental U.S. to switch by daybreak.
The State of California says that time zones were first used by the railroads in 1993 to standardize their schedules and to bring them in sync with each other. In 1918, the U.S. Congress made the U.S. rail zones official under the federal law itself.
At the same time, firefighters also wanted to remind everyone that it’s also a good time to change the batteries in their smoke alarms. Fire stations all over Nashville have been offering spare batteries while supplies last.
Arizona, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, don’t observe Daylight Saving Time at all.
