Day of the Dead Mexico, Nov 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Day of the Dead, when people remember their loved ones, whom they lost, is being celebrated with customary fervor. This day focuses on assembly of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration occurs on November 1st and 2nd in connection with the Catholic holiday of All Saints’ Day. All Saint’s day occurs on November 1st and All Souls’ Day occurs on November 2nd. Various traditions include building private altars honoring the deceased, using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting their graves too, with these as gifts for them.

Various museums and other organizations celebrated this day in their own way. The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts hosted a family fiesta to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a Hispanic tradition that celebrates dead ancestors and remembers them on this day.

The docent working the exhibit at the museum explained to the Bishop family, who were visiting the museum, that the images were displayed in homes, and families light candles surrounding the icons.

“I wanted her to know that there is more to this time of the year than trick or treating,” Franklin Bishop said of his daughter. “We celebrate All Saints Day at our church, where we remember the members who have died in the past year. But it’s good for her to learn about other cultures and what’s important in other parts of the world.”
