October 5, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): A man belonging to Sarasota met with a bizarre accident last Friday night. He was trying to load his long rifle of .22 caliber at one his friend’s house on the night of the mishap.

The Deputy of the County Sheriff, Manatee has stated that the 31 year old Daniel C. McDaniels had been at a friend’s house located at 10715 Robinson Road of Myakka City when both of them had spotted a skunk which had wandered in to the property at around 10:30 P.M..

The report filed at the Sheriff’s office includes the details which say that McDaniels had got his gun out of the trunk of his car with the objective of hunting down the skunk. He then put the butt of his air rifle on the floor and was trying to load it although it had already been loaded previously. His fingers slipped somehow setting the trigger off which sliced through a finger of his right hand and entered his face through the left cheek. The bullet had apparently stayed inside his head when he was being transported to the nearest hospital.

He had been coherent all through his journey and his injuries did not seem to be life threatening in the least. The police denied having filed any charges for the incident.

The case comes after a recent case of shooting oneself accidentally as well. Darrel Elam, a hiker belonging to the Snohomish County had shot himself in the left buttock while trying to fit in the gun into his back pocket.
