johnOct 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Thursday, The New York Times came out with a report that the Senator John Ensign’s former mistress and her husband had tried to make do with an overwhelming amount of about $8.5 million from the Senator, as a settlement. This incident had supposedly taken place before the elaborate details about the affair had been made public, when the Sen. admitted about the affair publicly.

According to the report, it has also been highlighted that the Republican Senator Tom Coburn, who is also a friend of Ensign, had acted as the middle man in resolving the matter between the two parties. Reportedly, the negotiation had taken place during the spring last year. Sen. Ensign’s former mistress, Cynthia Hampton and her husband Doug had been represented by their lawyer, during the negotiations.

According to the news reports, when the absurd sum of $8.5 million was put up by the Hamptons’ lawyer during the negotiations, Sen. Coburn had rejected it outright, by labeling it as “ridiculous.” The Hamptons had put up the enormous amount supposedly as compensation for all the pain and suffering that they had to endure. With the money, they had hoped to cover the cost of their Nevada home as well as the lost wages after facing termination. After that, Daniel J. Albregts, who was the attorney for the Hamptons, got back with the proposal of a subdued $2 million. This renewed negotiation amount too was rejected by Sen. Ensign.

The reports also state that sen. Coburn had evoked a warning to Ensign in order to end the alleged affair with Cynthia Hampton before it reached dire proportions. When reached for a comment, Coburn’s spokesperson was reportedly not available for comment.
