- Washington, Oct 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The phrase Cyber Monday refers to the Monday, which immediately follows the Black Friday. The Black Friday is actually the ceremonial kick-off of the holiday online shopping season in the United States between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Whereas Black Friday is associated with traditional sales, “Cyber Monday” denotes a busy day for retailers based on the Internet. The logic behind Cyber Monday was that consumers would return to their offices after the Black Friday weekend, and make those purchases online that they were not able to make in stores, due to the crowd in the retail shops.
According to the Wikipedia, the term “Cyber Monday” is a neologism which was invented by Shop.org, part of the U.S. trade association National Retail Federation. It was first used within the ecommerce community during the 2005 holiday season. According to Scott Silverman, the head of Shop.org, the term was coined based on research showing that 77% of online retailers reported a significant increase in sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving in 2004.
Also people are not able to make online purchases from their homes because they might not be having a decent enough internet speed. So after the weekend when they return to their offices on Monday, then they continue with their online shopping from there.
There are special websites and plethora of offers on them that people will take advantage on Cyber Monday. Infact there is a full website dedicated to this day http://www.cybermonday.com/
