RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (BNO NEWS) – A man of Cumberland County, North Carolina, was sentenced to 235 months (over 19 years) of imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release for possession of firearms charges, U.S. Attorney George Holding announced on Friday.

Gregory Allen Tolar, 49, was qualified as an armed career criminal by the East District of North Carolina Court due to his prior violent criminal record convictions.

Tolar pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of firearms by a convicted felon and possession of stolen firearms on December 7, 009.

On September 14, 2008, Tolar punched his girlfriend in the face and took the vehicle of his girlfriend’s daughter. Two days later, he went to his parents’ house where he stole a 12-gauge shotgun and a .22 revolver. Later that day, his girlfriend’s daughter and some companions arrived at Tolar’s parents’ house demanding the car back. Tolar refused and they left.

Tolar followed them to a local business where he pointed a firearm at them. They fled in a vehicle. Tolar chased them until he crashed his car. He left the car and the shotgun and fled on foot. He was finally arrested at Tolar’s girlfriend’s residence, in possession of the .22 pistol. Officers noted that he had discharged the gun inside the residence causing significant damage.
