Cult Comic Writer Harvey Pekar Passes Away

asCleveland Heights, Ohio, July 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Harvey Parker, the cult comic-book writer behind the “American Splendor” comic series has died in his Cleveland Heights, Ohio home. His lifeless body was found by his wife, Joyce Brabner in the wee hours of Monday morning. The celebrated comic-book writer was 70 at the time of his unfortunate death.

A call was placed to the police authorities from Harvey Pekar’s house at around 1p.m local time on Monday which informed the authorities about the death. On reaching the Cleveland Heights house, the iconic comic-book writer’s body was found lying between a bed and a drawer and the reason which led to the death of the iconic comic-book writer has not been ascertained as yet. The Cuyahoga County coroner’s office has stated that an autopsy would be done as early as possible to find out the cause of the death. However, Harvey Pekar is known to have been struggling with prostrate cancer, apart from other health ailments such as asthma, high blood pressure as well as depression.

Harvey Pekar’s works were mostly autobiographical in nature which highlighted the different aspects of his life. His best work is till date considered to be comic series “American Splendor” which is based on his life. When the comic series was published for the first time, it became an instant hit and over the years, it has been successful in generating stupendous readership. This series was instrumental in changing the perception of comic books at that time. The series had also been adapted for a celluloid version in the 2003 in which Paul Giamatti played Harvey Pekar’s character.
