Cruise Ship In Antarctica Returning To Home Port Finally

rewtDec 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A cruise liner named Clelia II ran into troubled in the chilly sea in Antarctica a few days back when it was hot by huge waves. It was passing through the Drake passage in the frozen temperature and after being hit by the waves it ran into some technical snags. The video footage uploaded in the web shows that the ship was hit repeatedly by massive waves and a 30 feet tall wave finally made one of its engines conk off. Some of the windows of the ship were also damaged badly and to make it worse its communication system was jeopardized for some time. Needless to say the passengers were panicked when the saw the ship being tossed in the cold ocean by a series of powerful waves. There were 88 passengers on-board the cruise liner along with 77 crews. Luckily none of the passengers received injury though one crew member sustained minor injuries.

Later a National Geographic ship reached the cruise liner and helped it to come out of danger. The ships are now returning to Argentina as reports have poured in. The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators, the entity which operates the cruise liner said in its statement that the ship “is in no danger, with weather conditions improving as the ship heads back to Ushuaia, Argentina.”

The cruise ship Clelia II announced an emergency on Dec 7th and reported about the engine damage and high winds. By Wednesday afternoon it was said to be out of danger and heading to the Argentine port. It had started its voyage on November 30th.
