Alaska, Aug 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Crafton family is back on land after spending around 7 years sailing in the sea. The 5-member Crafton family consists of Tom Crafton and his wife Kathy, along with their 3 children.

The enterprising Tom and Kathy felt that their life in Alaska wasn’t just fulfilling enough. They wanted something more out of life than just materialistic possessions. So they sold off their 2 houses, cars and other worldly possessions and bought a boat, which they christened as ‘Nueva Vida’, which means a new life, and simply set sail with their 3 children in tow. In order to do so, Tom left his job as a child psychologist and Kathy also left her post as a nurse and set sail.

Kathy says about the decision that, “As we looked in the future, I didn’t want to see my teenagers on the telephone in their room with their own TV. I wanted to really know who they were … to know them and they to know us, not the babysitter or the nanny.”

They set sail in 2003 from a dock in Severna Park, Md. The 5-member Crafton family consisting of Tom, Kathy, Jena, Kalena and Ben traveled more than 30,000 miles during their epic voyage.
