July 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) After the country has spent many years creating very strict rules for women’s attire, hairstyle, and many other issues, there is now a crackdown on men the men of Iran as well, namely the hair styles which they will now be allowed to sport. Mullets, for instance will now not only be fashionably offensive, but are considered a legal offense. It is the first crackdown on men’s hair styles since 1979 during the Islamic Revolution.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s cultural ministry has recently placed a ban on several men’s hairstyles, including not only the mullet, but spikes and ponytails as well. Basically any hairstyle which the Ministry feels is “decadent Western cuts” will now be forbidden.

For anyone who is not clear on what styles are considered to be decadent Western, they will be a guide for male citizens to use in order to become clear about what is acceptable. The new catalog will be released later in July at the Modesty and Veil Festival. Goatees are now allowed, although they were also considered illegal at one time.

If these rules are enforced in the same way which women’s fashion rules are in Iran, then police and paramilitaries will be in charge of making sure everyone has the correct hairstyles. Women are now severely punished if they show too much hair, wear make up or allow their loose fitting head to toe covering to become too figure hugging. Whether or not the same punishments will apply to the men is unclear.
