Dec.30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Federal Court in California has come up with a rule which is binding on the the police officials. The police officers are forbidden to use tasers, which is the stun gun. The police officers often take resort to using tasers when situations demand them to take necessary actions. A person who is just on the list of suspects, has not been tried and there is no concrete proof against him, cannot be subjected to the brutal treatment of a taser. The person suspected is not in a position to defend himself and therefore a brutal attack against him is unjustified.

The Court’s decision further reveals that a person who is not accused of a very serious crime and does not prove to be a hard core criminal, should not be attacked by a taser. At times, people who are not mentally sound and the officers find it difficult to gain hold over them, they use taser, but it should not be used at any cost.

It has been alleged that a police officer of the San Diego County killed a mentally retarded man who was at a very close distance to him and was not equipped with any life-taking weapons. He did not even show any signs of attacking the police officer. The ruling of the Court blatantly shows that the police were using the tasers quite liberally, resulting in the loss of lives. The Courts’ limitation further points out that it is high time police violence should be curbed, as the media did expose the pictures of a mentally imbalanced Frenchman, Levi’s death quite elaborately.
