November 10, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): A couple located in Baldwin City of Kansas had every reason to be grateful to their cats. Both of them emphasized that it had been their cats who had been behind their escaping a devastating fire which wrecked havoc leveling their home to the ground.

The couple had been awakened early on Sunday morning when they heard their cats squealing in terror. They managed to flee their burning home and escape to safety. However, all their three cats had been missing till the middle of the morning. The family from Baldwin City remains puzzled about the cause of fire although they do know how they managed to save themselves from being burnt, thanks to their cats.

Brent Ojanguren, the owner of the destroyed home said that they had Pepper, one of their cats for 4 to 5 years now. The new one, Rusty has been with them for 6 months while the one that had the principal role in saving their lives happened to be a stray. However, Brent and Lynnette Ojanguren thought that the cats had been fighting when they woke up with a start on account of their squealing.

Brent looked around and found their dining area on fire. Lynnette then managed to put on some clothes and both the Ojanguren headed for the window as the fire reached out towards them. A dog from the Kansas State Fire Department helped with the investigations and the authorities are still trying to ascertain the cause.

The cats continue to remain missing but Brent hopes that their lives have been spared.
