Apr 05 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to reports from CNN News, the judge in a Dubai court has upheld a former verdict against a British couple who had been caught kissing in public at a Dubai restaurant. The had initially appealed the verdict, but that appeal has now been denied. The couple has 30 days to file another appeal. The decision made by the court on Easter Sunday means that the couple will be put in jail for a month and then deported. They will also be required to pay a 300 dollar or Dh1,000 fine for drinking alcohol.

The presiding Judge Aysar Fouad pronounced the couple, who was a 25 year old British woman (Charlotte Adams) and a 24 year old British national man (Ayman Najafi), guilty of public indecency and consuming alcohol. The woman lives in Britain, and was visiting friends, but the man is living and working in Dubai. They were at a resteraunt with friends and although they admit to drinking liquor, they deny the public indecency charge, saying that the kiss was a simple “peck on the cheek.” They were reported by an Emirati woman who said she saw them kissing and fondling each other in public at Bob’s Easy Diner in the trendy Jumeirah Beach Residence. She was complaining that her child had seen the displays of affection.

The defendants’ lawyer, Khalaf Al Hosani is currently considering which legal grounds they would use to appeal a second time. He would then take the appeal before the Cassation Court.
