Mar 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A couple who are said to be from East Northport have been arrested for tampering with packages of Jello Pudding mixes at local stores, and then returning the items to the store after tampering.

Sixty-eight year old Alexander Clement, and his wife, sixty-four year old Christine Clement were both arrested after being named responsible for the incidents. They were each charged with five counts of petty larceny and five counts of tampering with a consumer product in the second degree.

Apparently, Christine is said to have bought the Jello mixes at the store, taken them home, and emptying the contents. She allegedly then refilled the boxes with sandwich bags which she had filled with sand and salt. According to the police, Christine and her husband returned the Jello boxes which were filled with the salty dirt mixture, to the store for a refund. The coupe reportedly committed this act at several stores, three in Brookhaven, Smithtown, and Huntington, which are all in Suffolk County, and a fourth in the Nassau County town of Woodbury.

Police authorities do not feel that the Clements meant any harm to any other customers, but committed the act in order to get the money back for the Jello, which they had used, in effect getting the Jello for free. Both Christine and Alexander will be arraigned at First District Court at a later date.
