Couple arrested for tampering Jell-O packets to get refunds

East Northport, Mar 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A couple has been arrested because they used to tamper with Jell-O packets. The couple consists of the 68 years old Alexander Clement and his 64 years old wife Christine Clement. Their modus operandi was very simple. They used to go a store on Long Island, New York, buy some packets of Jell-O, and then open them at home. They would drain the contents of the packets, and then fill in a mixture of sand and salt. Then they would re-seal the packet and go back to the store to get a refund.

In all, they have cheated four Long Island stores in this way, five times. The stores, which the Clements used to cheat, are located on Brookhaven, Smithtown and Huntington, all these three are in the Suffolk County, whereas the fourth store is located in Woodbury, which is in Nassau County.

The Suffolk County police have arrested Alexander and Christine Clement in connection with this case. They have been charged with numerous counts of petit larceny and also on some counts of tampering with a consumer product. The police said that they simply wanted to own the pudding mix, without having to shell out money for it. The police also revealed that the date of their arraignment hasn’t been decided as yet.
