Costa Rica Earthquake Causes No Damage

San Jose, Costa Rica, May 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Costa Rica was hit by a major earthquake on Thursday, May 20, in the afternoon at about 4:16 p.m., according to reports. The quake measured about 6.2 in the Richter Scale, according to the reports of the Geological Survey of the United States. The epicenter of the earthquake was about 42 miles away to the south of the capital city of San Jose, and it originated about 38 miles deep. he earthquake was a pretty strong one, and could be felt not only in San Jose, but also in the surrounding provinces. The towns of Perez Zeledon, Puntarenas and Bahia Drake were the ones that felt the temblor most strongly.
Although the quake was a pretty strong one, thankfully there are still no reports of any injuries pr damages, either to property or life. This is the second major earthquake to have struck the region in two days, although, thankfully, no damages or loss of life had been reported in either of the cases. Only the day before the Costa Rica earthquake, Peru was struck by a major quake, but in that case too, no damages had been reported.
The earthquake caused major panic among the residents of the regions which experienced the tremors, and naturally, because the one that struck Costa Rica on Jan 8 of this year caused considerable damage, and resulted in the death of eight people. However, reports suggest that there has been no such incidents in the one that struck yesterday, although the authorities are still looking or casualties. The local television stations put their programs on hold when the quake struck, receiving calls from panicked citizens instead.
