It has been reported recently that the authorities in Congo is taking an endeavor to start a research on the lake Tanganyika and in this endeavor the authorities have called for the assistance of the Russian mini-hubs that are involved in deep water research and is currently undergoing their research in Lake Baikal which is the deepest lake in the world and is also considered as the largest fresh water lake in the world. In Congo, a senior official for Russia’s Metropol investment company has delivered this information recently.
Sammi Kimbata who is involved in the endeavor has been quoted saying, “I arrived here with the hope that experience in the studying of Baikal would help us.” He even added, “We would like Russian Mir min-subs involved in the search of the Baikal to participate in the study of the Tanganyika.” Compared to lake Baikal the Tanganyika is no less in size and depth as it is considered as the second deepest freshwater lake in the world. The initiative to start a study on the lake with Russian assistance has been taken by Congo despite the fact that the lake is not located solely in Congo and is divided between Tanzania, Zambia and Burundi.
The initiation has been raised due to the rising amount of pollution that is becoming a major threat to the species that reside in the lake. It has been known that around 2,000 forms of life may be found inside this massive lake in Congo. The discovery of important facts regarding lake Baikal done by the mini subs has prompted the Congo authorities to go for such initiative.
