Concerns about airline safety high, after Christmas Day bombing attempt
December 28th, 2009 - 8:54 pm ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt ( Leave a comment )Washington DC, Dec 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 23 year old Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to bomb a Northwest flight 253, which was flying from Amsterdam to Detroit. But it can certainly be termed as a Christmas miracle, because he wasn’t successful due to quick reflexes by the crew and the passengers, and also due to a faulty detonator. After this unsuccessful bombing attempt, concerns about airline safety are at an all time high and stricter restrictions are expected soon.
“Had the device worked properly, there would have been an enormous explosion,” NPR’s Dina-Temple Raston said earlier on Morning Edition of the explosive that a Nigerian man Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is accused of trying to ignite on a Northwest flight from Amsterdam as it flew towards Detroit on Friday - Christmas Day.
According to latest reports, tighter restrictions are soon going to be enforced on flights. According to USA TODAY, “Taking off your shoes is no longer enough”. Security agents may also pat the soles of your feet, search upwards from the legs to the waist and also run a wand across your whole body. Bags may be searched again, even after they pass the scanner. And in a surprisingly rule, the bathroom breaks may be eliminated for the last hour of international flights. Extra carry on bags are sure to be shown the exit door very soon. Hopefully with these restrictions in place, bombing attempts would decrease and air-travel would be safe once more.
