Pearl Harbor AttackDec 07, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Americans are remembering the day that marked their entry into one of the most disastrous wars of the last century. 68 years ago to this day, the Japanese had attacked one of the most prominent naval bases of the United States of America, Pearl Harbor. All the states of America are gearing up to revive the largely unprecedented attack that marked the onset of one of the darkest periods in the history of the nation.

Chicago will commemorate the day with a ceremony entitled ‘Chicago Remembers Pearl Harbor.” The ceremony will include the ringing of a bell at Navy Pier, seven times, to commemorate the seven workers from Illinois who fell victim to the Pearl Harbor attack. Pearl Harbor survivors who hail from Chicago and Illinois will be among the attendees of the ceremony. There will also be a wreath laying ceremony that will be attended by the mayor of Chicago. The governors of Michigan and Indiana requested their staff and the people of the state to lower the flags at half mast, in order to pay respects to the ones who died in the tragic event.

On the other hand, there are those for whom this day has nothing worth remembering, the ones who really suffered the terrible ordeal. Most of them were young, and the memories of the gruesome and chilling sights have been branded onto their minds. For some, it meant losing family members whereas for the others, it was the clarion call of the country demanding help. For all of them, however, Dec. 07 signifies the day of irreparable losses.
