Columbus Day Closings Benefitted The Casinos

columbus-dayOct 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It was one of the most historically significant days for America on October 11, Monday. The Columbus Day celebrated yesterday in the United States, dates back to 1492, when Christopher Columbus landed for the first time in the land of opportunities. The day is regarded as the “Discovery Day” of America. Needless to say, most Americans celebrate this day and many organizations remain closed on Oct 11.

In America, most of the government offices and many banks remain closed. The banks that declared a holiday for “Columbus Day” are Bank of America, Citibank and U.S. Bank. Most of the federal government offices like Administration on Developmental Disabilities, Administrative Committee of the Federal Register, Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, Bureau of Justice Statistics, Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee, Civilian Radioactive Waste Management, all the Federal Courthouses and Coral City Hall amongst many others, were all also closed yesterday. However, some of the banks like Chase Bank and Wells FargoWachovia were open yesterday. But most importantly, the United States Postal Service was also closed. However, eight contract post offices were open.

Some of the organization declared a half day yesterday. These organize include The Shell Factory, Sun Harvest Citrus, Alico Self Storage, Shipping & Mailing, Paradise Card Shop. Most of the organizations who called it a half day were stores and shops. However of all things, it was the casinos all over the state, who took full advantage of the situation. In most cases, casinos are overcrowded during the weekends. However, they invited a whopping crowd as most of them hit the casinos to enjoy a rare weekday leave.
