Nov. 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former astronaut Lisa Nowak has been sentenced to two days in the Orange County Jail with credit for the time she has served and a year of probation. She had pleaded guilty on Tuesday for the charges that had been slapped on her. She was convicted on the charges of third degree burglary of a vehicle and misdemeanor against Colleen Shipman, the present girlfriend of Nowak’s former lover. The charges that were brought against her originally were intention of kidnapping and burglary, accompanied by assault.

Lisa Nowak was arrested at the Orlando International Airport after she confronted Shipman there. She had allegedly driven from Houston to Orlando, where she assaulted Shipman with pepper spray and tried to kidnap her. Shipman was then dating Bill Oefelein, an astronaut and Nowak’s ex-lover. As evidence of her crimes, the police found in her car several weapons like a steel mallet, a knife and rubber tubing. In the court, Shipman was in tears as she recounted the events of the last few years. She said that she was confident that Nowak had intended to kill her. She said that ever since the attack, she has lived a life of terror and paranoia. She said that her condition subsequently has made her lose her job in the Air Force and that she has also incurred medical complications on account of her constant anxiety.

Nowak apologized to Shipman in the court for having caused her all the tension and inconvenience. She has been ordered to severe all contact with the victim and Bill. She also has to do several hours of community service and take anger management classes. Nowak has also been instructed by the judge to write a letter of apology to the victim.
