coinLondon, Mar 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A gold coin, which was supposedly worn by one of the assassins of Emperor Julius Caesar would be going on display at the British Museum today. The occasion is going to have a special significance as it would be going on display today, which is known as the Ides of March- the day the emperor was killed 2,054 years back.

This would be the first time the significant coin would go for public display, after it was supposedly issued following the demise of Julius Caesar by the emperor’s deceitful friend Brutus, who played a pivotal role in heading the conspiracy against him. It becomes clear that the coin was adorned as a talisman by the conspirators as it has brash imagery displayed in it. The coin displays the head of Brutus on one side and two daggers as well as the date Eid Mar, the Ides of March on the other. Moreover, the coin also comprises a hole which was apparently hit shortly by it was issued, pointing out the possibility that it was worn by one of the conspirators.

Meanwhile, it has also come to light that British Museum came across the gold coin for the first time way back in the year 1932, but was unable to procure it then due to financial constraints. However, the gold coin came under the custody of the museum as it has been loaned by a private collector. It has also been revealed that around 60 silver editions of the coin exist but only one is believed to be present in gold. Among the 60 silver versions, many are owned by the London-based museum.
