Coalition service member dies in blast in southern Afghanistan
May 24th, 2010 - 10:50 pm ICT by BNO NewsKABUL (BNO NEWS) — A coalition service member was killed in an attack in southern Afghanistan on Monday, the NATO-led ISAF alliance said.
The service member - whose identity and nationality was not immediately released - died of injuries sustained in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan. Other details on the incident were not immediately released.
The casualty raises the number of coalition service members killed in Afghanistan so far this year to 205, according to a BNO News count based on official data. At least 128 of those were from the United States, while 41 others were from the United Kingdom.
Improvised explosive devices continue to be a grave threat to coalition troops in Afghanistan. The majority of those killed this year have died in such attacks.
