036 A clam boat has pulled up 10 canisters off New York’s Long Island, according to the United States Coast Guard on Monday.

One of the canisters broke up and released yet-to-be-identified chemical and two crewmembers of the fishing boat were soon struggling to breathe. The crewmembers were rushed to the St. Luke’s hospital in New Bedford, Mass. on Monday.

However hospital officials at the St. Luke’s hospital said one of the crewmember’s condition worsened and he was rushed to the Massachusetts General Hospital. He is expected to undergo further treatment. The other crewmember was treated and released at the St. Luke’s hospital.

The fishing boat had a crew of 6 people, and they caught the canisters on Sunday, at high seas. One of the canisters broke loose and two members of the crew were fatally exposed to the unidentified chemical in the canister. One of the exposed members then began developing blisters, and that was when the other crewmembers decided to bring him down on the Long Island for medical treatment.

The crew then dropped the first crewmember at New Bedford for treatment, while the remaining 5 members headed back to the high seas. But the other crewmember also reported feeling sick. The boat then returned and brought the other sick crewmember to the hospital and headed back to sea with the four remaining crewmembers.
