Christmas tree in Taiwan made of plastic spoons
December 21st, 2010 - 9:15 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattTaipei, Dec 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Christmas tree in Taiwan is made from a very unusual material – plastic spoons.
It took about 80,000 plastics spoons to make the 12 meter Christmas tree. Environmentalists believe that the Christmas tree will send a message about the planet this Christmas. The tree though will not be left standing for that long. After the Christmas holidays, the tree would be taken to the recycle machine to be recycled into another useful thing.
Six students from the Transworld University designed the unique Christmas tree. They were taking part in the best Christmas tree made from recycled materials and their invention came up tops. Not only that but the massive tree is also making headlines throughout the world.
The 80,000 plastic spoons though were provided by the local branch of KFC in Taiwan. The tree was lit up last night at the city of Taichung. The mayor of the city, Jason Hu was there to grace the occasions.
After the ceremony, the mayor said that, “Christmas must be celebrated in an eco-friendly way, and it is the same when we choose clothing or when we take a shower. An eco-friendly Christmas tree is a sign of an improved society, and a symbol of creativity.”
