Christians Begin Holy Week Observance

Mar 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Holy Week has commenced for Christians all across the world with Palm Sunday which was observed yesterday. Palm Sunday is commemorated by followers of Christianity worldwide as it signifies the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem about 2000 years earlier.
In order to mark the auspicious occasions, Christians visited churches where a variety of traditional rituals are carried out to honor the day. On this particular day every year, thousands of pilgrim throng the holy city of Jerusalem to celebrate Jesus Christ’s entry in the city. Even this year, pilgrims as well as local residents attended the holy mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which is believed to be the site where Jesus Christ was crucified. Celebrations were also abuzz in the birthplace of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem, to mark the day. On Palm Sunday, the entry of Jesus in Jerusalem is re-enacted across the world with processions, with palm leaves being carried out to mark the occasion.
As per the New Testament, the Holy Week begins with the Palm Sunday and is basically the last week before the Easter. The Holy Week is observed by Christians by fasting during this period of time as they gear up for the important feast of Easter. This period of time has immense significance in Christianity as it marks the last week of the earthly life of Jesus Christ prior to his crucifixion on Good Friday, which is followed by his resurrection on Easter Sunday. As Christians world over rejoiced the entry of Jesus Christ on Palm Sunday, they were all well aware of the fact that the day Jesus was crucified was also approaching.
