Chives being recalled because of possible listeria contamination

New Hampton, May 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Federal food safety officials have placed a recall for chives because there might be a possible listeria contamination. The chives were been distributed from the Goodness Gardens Incorporation. The chives were sold through various retailers that were based in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Alabama, Illinois and Virginia.

The chives were packed in small 1 pound bags and placed in plastic containers. The number of the lot that is being recalled is 0201111 and the recalled chive packages are dated 6th May.

As of now, there have been no cases of any illnesses associated with the recalled chives, but the Federal Food Safety officials are not taking any chances. The FDA also says that the consumers can take the recalled packages to the retailers in order to get a refund.

Listeria is actually a bacteria and it may cause havoc in the human body. Major symptoms of listeria contamination is fever, infections and stomach related ills. It is especially brutal to all those people, whose immune systems are compromised and esp. for young children. Pregnant woman should stay away from listeria contamination, because it can cause miscarriages.
