pony Virginia, July 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The age long pony swim has started off today at 6:00 am to 11:00 am (ES) in the Assateaque Channel. The event, which was started in 1925, is used by the Chincoteague Volunteer fire Department.

After the swim, the ponies will be auctioned off on Thursday, 29 July at the Chincoteaque Island at a ceremony called the Pony Penning. The Pony Penning will be held between 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.

During the event, tourists can have the chance to trail the ponies and have a closer look at them during the swim by taking a boat. Organizers say boats will be available to take the tourists near the swimming ponies. Other fans and enthusiasts can also watch from the channel’s shorelines.

During the event, the ponies are released into the Assateague Channel and the ponies would swim across the channel unto the Chincoteague Island. Once the animals get onto the Island, they are rounded off by Cowboys and auctioned off the next day. During the event, the venue boasts of a crowded look because of the number of ponies that are in the water. There is such a huge crowd at the event that besides the ponies, no other pets are permitted at the venue and even in the parking places.
