mount Kathmandu, Apr 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) China and Nepal have finally settled on the issue of the height of Mount Everest. There has been disagreement since long, on exactly how high the Mount Everest is. However now both the countries have accepted that the official height of Mount Everest is 8,848 meters.

Earlier the Chinese were saying that the mountain ought to be measured by its ‘rock-height’, whereas the Nepalese were saying that it ought to be measured by its ‘snow height’. And between these two heights there is a discrepancy of 4 meters, hence the debate. However both the sides agreed to have a meeting about the issue in Kathmandu, and there Chinese authorities agreed that the mountain ought to be measured by its ‘snow height’, hence it is now officially 8,848 meters tall. During the meeting the Nepalese authorities also conceded to the Chinese that the ‘rock height’ of Mount Everest is 8,844 meters.

Even though the mountain has been conquered thousands of times, but there has been a dispute about its official height, since 1856, when the first measurement was made. In 1953, Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary became the first people who climbed the world’s tallest peak.
