April 26, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): An influential Roman Catholic bureaucrat in Chile admitted in a correspondence on Sunday that he had discontinued an inquiry into supposed sexual abuses by a priest because he was searching for more verification.

But Cardinal Francisco Javier Errazuriz guaranteed the parishioners that the church investigation is again on the move into the retired Rev. Fernando Karadima. Karidima is also the theme of a Chilean prosecutor’s criminal exploration.

Errazuriz uttered in the correspondence that, subsequent to a preliminary examination, he had brought to a halt the matter as he desired to unearth fresh proof. He sought to scrutinize severely the proof they already had. He wanted to conduct fresh sessions with the specialists in canonical law.

The allegations against Karadima were initially mentioned last week by La Tercera broadsheet.
