Chilean Cardinal Vows A Meticulous Investigation Into The Sexual Abuse Disgrace In Chile
April 26th, 2010 - 8:04 pm ICT by Pen Men At WorkApril 26, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): An influential Roman Catholic bureaucrat in Chile admitted in a correspondence on Sunday that he had discontinued an inquiry into supposed sexual abuses by a priest because he was searching for more verification.
But Cardinal Francisco Javier Errazuriz guaranteed the parishioners that the church investigation is again on the move into the retired Rev. Fernando Karadima. Karidima is also the theme of a Chilean prosecutor’s criminal exploration.
Errazuriz uttered in the correspondence that, subsequent to a preliminary examination, he had brought to a halt the matter as he desired to unearth fresh proof. He sought to scrutinize severely the proof they already had. He wanted to conduct fresh sessions with the specialists in canonical law.
The allegations against Karadima were initially mentioned last week by La Tercera broadsheet. The allegations declared that a previous altar boy had pointed the finger at the ex-priest, Karadima, of sexually maltreating him in his residence at the Sacred Heart of Jesus church. This church was in the capital’s stylish Providencia neighborhood. The sexually mistreated male, now a physician, verbalized that the sexual abuse commenced when he was a child and was unremitting for almost 20 years.
Four other males, all of them being energetic participants in the parish, then stepped forward with similar accusations. This information has been stated by the physician’s lawyer.
Karadima, an octogenarian, has not reacted straightforwardly to the accusations. However, his attorney has persevered that his client is guiltless.
Errazuriz has heartened the possible sufferers of sexual abuse by priests to get in touch with the church authorities. He has vocalized that the torrent of sexual abuse assertions recently against the church from Europe has distressed and traumatized them.
Errazuriz has sworn that the inquiry against Karadima will be systematic. He voiced that it is at a quite higher stage subsequent to being handed over to a fresh investigator last year.
Errazuriz explicated about Karadima that he has been a priest, who has functioned productively and bigheartedly throughout his whole life. However, Errazuriz emphatically declared that there is no place in the priesthood for those who sexually violate minors. No raison d’être can rationalize this heinous felony. He expounded that they are completely devoted to being incessantly watchful so that these grave misdemeanors are not repeated.
