Kabul, Afghanistan, June 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a shocking development, two Afghan girls in their teenage where whipped when they tried to get out of the marriage forced on them by their tormentors. They tried to flee in a bus disguised as boys. They also came across the cops and hoped that the law would be on their side. However, what happened was the reverse. They made it to the Herat province which is known as liberal. However, to their shock they found the cops acting like the Talibans and the cops actually sent them back to the tormentors. They were flogged in public thereafter for trying to run away from the spouses.
The local mullahs recorded the torture on tape. However, the supporters of the girls managed to get two such videos to the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission. The ordeal these child brides had to go through points to the basic problems that continue to thwart the growth of the Taliban infested nation. It is quite shocking that acts that would be considered a crime in civilized nations continue to be a norm in Afghanistan. Even the government of the country does not seem willing to change things in this aspect.
Unicef data shows that a large number of women who get married in the country are underage and they are often made to tie the knot forcibly. Girls who were flogged publicly were married off to elder men in their community and their husbands forced them to have sex, as it has been reported. The kangaroo trial and subsequent punishment of the two girls have shocked the viewers.
