Chicago Chicago, Feb 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Chicago residents were jolted awake, when a 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck the area early morning on Wednesday morning. It particularly struck northern Illinois. The centre of the earthquake was 48 miles west of Chicago, near the city of Sycamore. It happened at around 4 am in the morning. The depth of the earthquake was only 3 miles.

“The whole house shook,” Walter Mockus of St. Charles told the Chicago Tribune. “The chimes that hang were all ringing. It was so loud, I thought a plane had gone down.” “We have it as a seismic event. It’s mostly people who said ‘we woke up and we thought we were going crazy. Mostly it’s rattling people awake. It’s going to be very widely felt”, USGS geophysicist Amy Vaughn said of the earthquake.

According to the USGS it is the strongest earthquake for Chicago, since 1985.

There are presently no reports of anyone being injured. And the actual damage caused by the earthquake in terms of property, is also not known at the moment. Police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines confirmed the news of the earthquake, and he said that it occurred in DeKalb. He also said he has not received any reports of injuries or any damages as of 4:30 am local time.
