Chicago Chicago, Feb 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Seismologists said that an ‘unusual earthquake’ shook Chicago at around 3:59 am on Wednesday. The magnitude of the earthquake was earlier said to be 4.3, but later the USGS revised it to 3.8 magnitude. The earthquake had struck about 38 miles west-northwest of Chicago, at a depth of 3.1 miles. According to witnesses the tremors of the earthquake were felt up to 6 seconds.

The earthquake quake was said to be felt, as far as Wisconsin and Tennessee. The precise location of the earthquake was around 40 miles NW of Chicago. Illinois had been rocked by a very strong earthquake on 9th of November 1968, which had a magnitude of 5.4

“It shook me out bed. I was sleeping and the whole bed was shaking, it was that violent,” said Rex Covington, who witnessed the earthquake in Plato Center Township, about five miles west of Elgin. “The whole house shook,” said Walter Mockus of St. Charles. “The chimes that hang were all ringing. It was so loud, I thought a plane had gone down.”

According to the officials, no casualties were reported at all. However there was some panic as an earthquake is ‘very uncommon’ in that region. “We have had numerous calls from citizens that they felt the earthquake,” a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department said.
