Cherie Blair sells Tony Blair’s signature for a mere 10 Pounds on the auction site eBay
October 27th, 2010 - 8:43 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Oct 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Cherie Blair has sold the signature of her husband - Tony Blair for a “measly” £10 on eBay.
Cherie had advertised the signature on eBay for £25. She eventually closed the deal at £10.
The action has caused uproar in UK. Critics say Cherie’s action was cheap but her spokeswoman claim that her action was just the opposite.
She claims that Cherie was using the opportunity to ensure that people who were offering the signature of Tony Blair for sale get discouraged. She pointed further that Cherie demonstrated this by instantly refunding the amount to the buyer.
The exact words of the spokeswoman were that, “Cherie Blair was cross that people were selling Tony Blair’s signature when you can get one free. She was trying to undermine the market and as soon as someone bought it, she refunded it straight away to make the point”.
However not everyone is convinced with that explanation. A 35-year-old account holder on eBay, Paul Hurworth insists that if Cherie really was not bent on selling the signature, why then did she have to keep reducing the price.
Cherie in particular has often been accused of using the reputation of the former British Prime Minister for money. Her critics believe this is the lowest point of the action.
