Beer lovers around the world will have the perfect excuse to gulp down some chilled cans and bottles on the 5th of August. The day has been declared International Beer Day by some beer lovers all over the world.

The day is celebrated in about 138 cities in the world and this year, almost three hundred separate events have been planned in the over 20 countries that observe the day. The International Beer Day was the brainchild of a group of friends led by Jesse Avshalomov of San Francisco.

In 2007, they decided to dedicate the day to the enjoyment of beer and since then the idea has been grabbed by several other people in the world.

Avshalomov explained that the group decided to set up a website to get support for the day. The website brought in the needed response.

Avshalomov said, “We started receiving emails from people who had found the IBD website and held their own celebrations in England and South Africa. We knew then that we needed to take our celebration to the world.”

On the day, beer lovers are encouraged to buy beer for friends and utter the words: “I bring you the gift of beer.”
