Charlie Gilmour: Arrested during London’s student riots

December 13, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): A Cambridge University student in history Charlie Gilmour was arrested during the riots in London on Thursday after he was found violating rules by clinging on to the Union flag on the Cenotaph.

Charlie Gilmour, the star son of Pink Floyd was found on Regent Street during the students demonstrations and was there during attack by the demonstrators on the car of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla in which they were travelling.

However, a public apology was issued by the star son and he had mentioned that he had no intention of attacking or defiling the Cenotaph.

Charlie who has been a former model was also supported by his mother Polly Samson, a writer and Journalist who according to reports in the Evening Standard has said that since he- Charlie was running along with the crowd it just happened in a mad moment that he grabbed the flag and swung on to it.

Charlie Gilmour is reportedly under custody as he has committed what could be termed an insult to the Union flag.

Reports are that a Royal British Legion has gone on record saying that “War memorials honor the memory of British Armed Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice and who defend the freedom we enjoy”.
