Cat predicts deaths at a nursing home
February 3rd, 2010 - 2:35 am ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt ( Leave a comment )Rhode Island, Feb 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Oscar is a cat, who has the uncanny habit of predicting which patient is about to die at a nursing home. He has the habit of lying down, and curling next to the patient who is about to die next at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, in Providence, Rhode Island. This strange behavior is baffling doctors no end. The two-year-old Oscar has been totally correct in 25 cases so far.
Whenever he curls up with a patient, then the nursing home staff alert the family members so that they can spend the final moments with their loved one. “He doesn’t make many mistakes. He seems to understand when patients are about to die,” David Dosa, a professor at Brown University.
Oscar was adopted as a kitten at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre. The cat comes and goes as he pleases out of the room’s like the doctors and the nurses. And he is generally not friendly to patients. When the family members spend the final moments with their loved ones, then many want that the cat should be out of the room. This upsets Oscar no end, and then in protest, he paces up and down.
