Casanova’s Steamy Memoirs To Be Available Online

Paris, Feb 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Giovanni Giacomo Casanova’s own hand written manuscript will be soon displayed for public viewing in the French National Library. On Thursday Frederic Mitterand, the French Cultural Minister said that the country has bought the original manuscript which has been written by the above mentioned world famous 18th century womanizer. The memoir is titled “The Story Of My Life”. The original memoir contains 3,700 pages and was priced euro7 million. However, the current price at which the memoir has been bought is not disclosed.
The manuscript which was with the famous German publishing house Brockhaus, has its own adventurous journey from the 19th century to the world war II and then in a safe locker of a bank from where it again went to the hands of the Brockhaus family. The book now has been bought from them by an anonymous patron who has donated it to the French National library. The Cultural Ministry has decided that people will be able to view the digital copy of the work online from the library’s website Gallica. The website is not yet totally prepared. The ministry displayed some pages of the memoir on Thursday at the French Cultural ministry office.
The memoir records the mannerism of The Enlightenment period in Paris. Giovanni Giacomo Casanova who is known as a great womanizer and lover has recorded in this book his numerous love encounters. The memoir has some detailed description of his amorous relationship which had led many publishers and translators to edit the text before. However, the French Cultural minister on Thursday said that this memoir “contains an essential part of our history” and therefore should be made available to all.
