Casanova’s steamy memoirs given to a French library

casanova Paris, Feb 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The memoirs of Casanova have been presented to the France’s national Library on Thursday. The title of the book is “The story of Jacques Casanova … written by himself.” Jacques Casanova is an 18th century lothario, spy, writer and lover of adventure, whose name has become another name for a discreet lover. The manuscript that was sent to the French Library is the original version, and it is estimated to be around $9.5 million. It contains vivid and colorful details of Casanova’s trysts that have shocked people seamlessly for the last 2 centuries. It is believed that the memoirs were taken away from the Nazi’s during the World War II.

Casanova was born as Giovanni Giacomo Casanova in Venice in the year 1725. He wrote his profound memoirs, which run into almost 4000 pages, between the years 1789 and 1798. Since he died in 1798, so he bequeathed the memoirs to his nephew. They are very aptly titled ‘The Story of My Life’, and they have the accounts of his Age of Enlightment along with the colorful Casanova’s personal adventures, some of which are also sexual in nature. French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterand said that it “contains an essential part of our history.” The memoirs will go on public display at the French National Library in Paris in 2011.
