Nov 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Carnival Splendor, the largest ship of the noted Carnival Cruise Lines caught fire early morning today and thereafter the gigantic vessel was left motionless near the Coast of Mexico. The authorities later said that the fire had broken out at 6 am. It led the main generators of the ship to break down leading to a stalemate situation. However, no crew member of the cruise liner or passengers were hurt by the incident as it has been reported. The ship management asked the passengers to assemble at the Lido deck of the ship. Luckily the sea is not turbulent and the overall weather is pleasant. The command of the vessel is in touch with U.S. Coast Guard.
The cruise liner was on its week long Mexican Riviera cruise which commenced at California’s Long Beach. There are more than 3200 passengers on board and 1167 crew members. The carnival management has said in a statement that it wants to end the voyage as of now. Work is going on to restore power and put things back in shape. When the power gets restored the ship will be taken back to its home port in California. However, alternative arrangements for tugboats have also been made so that in case power cannot be restored it can still be shifted to the beach.
For the passengers on board the Carnival Splendor the situation was really hard. They were left without hot food, air conditioning, telephone services after the fire broke out. Thereafter the ship was relying on its emergency generators. Gerry Cahill the CEO and president of Carnival Cruise Lines said that the guests will be refunded.
