Cargo train collision blocks Amtrak train

Des Moines, April 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A deadly collision between two cargo trains has led to the closure of the rails linking San Francisco and Chicago. The collision which occurred on Sunday resulted in the death of two crew members on one of the trains.

The route is one of the busiest because it is used by about 40 trains every day. A spokesperson of Amtrak told reporters that passengers would be inconvenienced because of the closure of the railway. The affected passengers are being bused to their various destinations by Amtrak.

Investigators have arrived at the scene of the collision to determine the cause. The two trains were travelling at the same direction when the accident happened. One of the trains was carrying coal while the other had maintenance equipments. The coal train reportedly hit the rear of the other train causing parts of both of trains to derail. The two crew members who were controlling the coal train died as a result of the accident but the crew in the other train survived.

Officials have not released the names of the crew members who were killed in the accident. The accident happened at 7 a.m. at McPherson.
