The accident took place on Sunday and four other people also died from the crash, as it has been reported. The rescue team recovered a dozen dead bodies from the site of the crash. It is likely that the death toll would go up. The ill-fated Ilyushin IL-76 airplane belonging to Georgian airline Sunway crashed near the airport following its take off from Karachi airport after refueling. It was headed for the Sudanese capital of Khartoum. The plane also had 31 tons of supply material in it. The crash was extremely severe in nature and fire engulfed the building where it crashed.

The authorities said “We do not know the exact number of those killed on ground”. The fire was later brought under control but the possibility of more corpses being discovered cannot be ruled out. Pervez George, the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan’s spokesman said that the plane crashed less than two minutes after it took off from the airport. The plane missed the large buildings in the vicinity of the airport, otherwise the casualty could have been much higher.

Those who witnessed the crash said that one of the engines of the air plane caught fire before it came crashing down. It could be a mechanical snag. The explosion was very powerful and the residents in the region thought it was a bomb blast, authorities have stated.
