Canyon, TX man sentenced for kidnapping a minor

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA (BNO NEWS) – A Canyon, Texas man was sentenced to 500 months (over 41 years) in federal prison for kidnapping a 10 year-old girl, U.S. District Attorney Sanford Coats announced on Wednesday.

On January 18, 2007, a girl was riding her bicycle near her home in Texhoma, Oklahoma, when at 6.30 p.m. a man stopped to asked directions and lured the girl into his car. The man was later identified as Terrance Lynn McGuire, 27.

McGuire threatened the girl, put a mask over her head, bound her arms, taped her mouth shut, and placed her in the trunk of his car. He drove to Dumas, Texas and then to his residence in Canyon. The following day, McGuire drove to Clovis, New Mexico, and released the girl in a convenience store. The minor victim told what happened to store employee who immediately called the police department.

“The protection of our children is, and will remain, a top priority of the United States Attorney’s Office and the Department of Justice as a whole. I commend the diligent work of all law enforcement involved in bringing Mr. McGuire to justice. As a result of this fine work, Mr. McGuire will not victimize another child for more than 41 years,”‪ said District Attorney Sanford Coats.

In June 2009, McGuire was arrested by FBI agents. He pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping and transporting the victim across state lines.

McGuire was also sentenced to five years of supervised release and to register as a sex offender after his release from prison.
