May 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An elite Canadian pilot who once flew Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip home to Britain has been charged with two murders, and may turn out to be a serial killer. The pilot, who stood tall and fit beside the royal couple as they waved to the crowds, then turned to salute them himself, and flew them home has been accused of the murder of two women, the assault of two others, and 82 break-ins in which he often allegedly stole women’s panties.

The entire country was shocked and hurt by the allegations, and the moral of the soldier’s there plummeted at the news. The Canadian Colonel Russel Williams was the commander of Canada’s most elite military base which was very high profile, and once flew Canadian prime ministers to their destinations. “It’s unprecedented. I’ve never ever heard of anybody, particularly at that level, being charged with something like that. It’s unheard of,” said retired Major Greg McQuaid, “It just doesn’t equate.”

Williams, who is 47 years old, was charged on Feb 7 with the murders of Jessica Lloyd, was was 27 years old when her body was found last February, and Marie Comeau, who was a 38 year old corporal whom Williams commanded when she was found dead in her home back in November. Both women shared the same cause of death-asphyxiation. He was also charged with kidnapping, or force-able confinement, breaking and entering, and sexual assault in the cases of two other women who were attacked in their separate homes near Tweed, Ontario in 2009.

Williams was also charged with breaking into 47 different homes 82 times, with one of those homes being broken into 9 different times. Angela McCanny who had her home broken into repeatedly in 2008, said that he always stole the women’s underwear.”Every single piece in the house. He was really thorough,” McCanny said. Her family was shocked to discover that Williams, the highly known Colonel was arrested for it. Police seized 500 women’s undergarments from his home in Ottawa.

Williams, the military veteran of 23 years was suspended with full pay. Although he was never in combat, he was well known throughout his career. He reportedly tried to kill himself last month by cramming cardboard down his throat. William’s wife, Marry Elizabeth Harriman has left her job at the Heart and Stroke Administration, where she was executive director and is said to be devastated and will not discuss the case. “It looks like she’s had the life sucked out of her,” her neighbor, Michael Gennis told ‘The Associated Press’. “You go into her house and there are pictures of her and her husband all over the place, so it’s sad. I feel badly for her.”
